BRANDON PLANNING COMMISSION
APRIL 24, 2008
PUBLIC FORUM
Planning Commissioners present:
Jon Andrews, Anne Bransfield, Matt Carmolli, Jenny Nixon, Linda Stewart, Ethan
Swift
Others present: 9 members of the
public
The forum started at 6:30 pm.
Displays were set up throughout the
room.
Questions and discussion on major
sections of the Town Plan:
Economic Development
Housing
-
One size fits all approach doesn't work, because of
non-conforming use issues
-
Homes should be proportioned to lot size to allow people
to develop in a reasonable manner
-
Affordable housing options should not be limited
-
Assisted living in downtown problem with
financing strategy (capital budget plan?)
-
Need better senior housing in Brandon,
especially closer to downtown (than Park Village).
Future Land Use
-
Need more of a balance - one very effective way to deal
with the balance issue would be to include a short section that might
address the relative weight of each of the goals articulated in the plan.
For example, preservation of the local aquifers from contamination should
trump most other articulated goals. Since every project is going to involve
more than one goal, I would think it would be very useful if such a priority
list were to guide development.
Recreation
- Better bike / pedestrian
infrastructure
- Need more recreational
opportunities for children, concerns about liability of pool
- Complete the backyard
project - install an iron truss bridge above Neshobe Falls
- Path along Neshobe River
from Brandon Inn upstream to Wheeler Rd.
- Continuous loop of
sidewalks for walking
Transportation
- Safety - Seniors isolated
due to lack of pedestrian and bicycle paths. Seniors can't get to other
parts of town.
- Need sidewalk from at
least Forest Dale to Country Club Rd.
- Sidewalk from OVUHS to
housing development north of school / Mac's at intersection of McConnell
Road.
- Shoulder of Park St needs
to be fixed
Public Facilities
- What building is
Illingworth Hall?
- Need for child care
facilities
- Need a store such as Ben
Franklin in town
BLUO Amendments and zoning
- Map changes - below
Granary
- What is a CUD?
Adjourn - The forum adjourned
at 8:40 pm.
Respectfully submitted
