The major change and goal of the rate structure change was to equitably spread the cost amongst all the users of the water system. The Prudential Committee thought this was the best option. The base fee is calculated by Equivalent Residential Units (ERU’s). An ERU is equivalent to about 250 gallons per day(Equivalent to a single family home). In calculating ERU’s we said an apartment would be treated as 1 ERU. Example : Park Village Apts - 12 apts = 12 ERU’s = 12 Base charges. For commercial properties, we used historical consumption data to calculate ERU’s. Example : New England Woodcraft had a historical usage of about 1100 gallons per day. 1100 /250 = 4.4. They were assigned 5 base charges. We will be reviewing the commercial properties and will make adjustments if the usage indicates the calculations are incorrect.
