Wastewater and Water Information for all Sewer and Water Customers Water meter readings are done twice a year by Brandon Fire District. Each covers the previous six-month period. The water bill for November reading is due the first of January and the bill for the May reading is due the first of July. The water rate is currently $3.00 per thousand gallons. Checks for your water bills should be made payable to the Brandon Fire District and mailed to 2 West Seminary St. Brandon, VT. Or, they may be left in the drop box in the downstairs side door of the firehouse. If you have any questions about your water usage or bill, please call Ray Counter, Water Superintendent at the Brandon Fire District at 247-3311. After the water readings are done, the information is forwarded to the Town for the sewer billing. The sewer rate is $7.00 per thousand gallons with a minimum $49.00 fee for the first 7,000 gallons. After your sewer bill is calculated for the six-month period, it is divided into two billings which are due at the end of July and the second installments is due at the end of October of every year. Each unit within a dwelling is charged separately. The bills for the November reading is due at the end of January and the second installment is due at the end of April of every year. This method allows you to pay your sewer bill in four installments. If you have any questions about you sewer bill, please call the Town Office at 247-0223. Other questions regarding wastewater treatment may be directed by email to the department at: branwwtp@sover.net Remember: It cost the
Brandon Fire District $3.00 per thousand gallons to pump the water into your
home and it costs the Town of Brandon $6.65 per thousand gallons to treat all
water/sewage leaving your home to be treated at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Please note that ALL water usage affects your sewer bill.
It is in your best interest to repair any drips or leaks in toilets and
faucets immediately. This wasted water increases both water and sewer bills. Would you like to receive a
lower sewer bill! You can help
reduce operating costs! The sewer use ordinance
prohibits the discharge of any floatable oil, fat, wax, grease or suspended
solids into the municipal sewer system as grease will solidify when it hits cold
water. To avoid problems for you
and your neighbors, it is suggested that items such as bacon grease be poured
into an empty can, allow to harden and disposed of with your regular trash. It is also against the
ordinance to discharge roof downspouts, exterior foundation drains, sump pumps
or other sources of surface run-off or ground water into the sewer system. These discharges, which create high flows at our
treatment plant, must be treated as wastewater thus increasing chemical cost. Remember the discharge of grease or sump pump to the municipal sewer system is not only, illegal, it is costly to process. |
